CTK is looking  for 30 Enthusiastic Volunteers to help at this event

Together we can make a difference!

We are not looking for just any volunteer – we are looking for those who like fun, meeting and helping people, mountain air and early mornings! Once again we have the opportunity to serve our community and Ski to Sea races at the DOT station on Mt. Baker Hwy. This is the transition point for runners to bikers.

We need a total of 30 dedicated and enthusiastic  volunteers to make this transition successful for the participants. When you volunteer, you give back to an event that helps define our community.  All volunteers receive a Ski to Sea t-shirt, lunch and the opportunity to have a great time together!

We have two opportunities to volunteer:

Set Up Day     4 – 6 people needed
Saturday, May 26th
Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 or 3:00 PM
Location: Mt. Baker Highway DOT station

We need 4 – 6 people to help set up the transition area. This involves laying out the traffic cones, setting up barricade fencing, setting out signage, spotting trash/recycle containers, setting up the finish line, etc. The work involves lifting and a lot of walking, but it is all on paved surfaces. We propose to start at 10:00 am and should finish about 2 – 3 PM. We will leave the church parking lot at 8:30 AM and travel up the mountain together. Lunch will be provided.  The work has to be done, rain or shine.

Day of Race    26 people needed
Sunday, May 27th
Time: 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Mt. Baker Highway DOT station

We need 26 people to assist with the transition of the 4th leg of the race. Assistance is needed in flagging racers, crowd control, setting up cones and caution tape, helping runners after they finish running, assisting bikers into the staging areas, clean up and parking cars.  We will leave the church parking lot at 4:00 AM sharp and travel up the mountain together. It should be noted that the highway is closed for the race and will not re-open until about 1:00 PM.  This is also a rain or shine commitment.

Why should you serve as a volunteer?

It takes hundreds and hundreds of volunteers to make this race successful. The entire community gets involved to promote and assist throughout the various aspects of this event. CTK wants to be an important part of our community. Let’s get out there are serve together. We deliberately choose one of the most challenging leg stations to manage (yes, we know it is a very early commitment!).  But we believe we have the 30 people in our church body who are willing to make this type of sacrifice and have a blast volunteering together as a CTK Team.  Serve together as a small group, family or neighborhood. Our community needs us. Let’s show them we are up for the challenge. This is a great opportunity serve as a family or bring a friend to serve alongside you.

On February 13th five teams divided up 400 carnations and set out to bless those in our neighborhoods who daily serve our community.  They simply walked in with a hand full of flowers and said, “We are from the neighborhood and just wanted to say thanks for serving our community!”  Nothing more, nothing less – thank you! Just a simple way of showing the love of Jesus.

Throughout our neighborhoods are people who faithfully serve our community on a daily basis: School administration personnel, county and government workers, non-profits, etc.  CTK Outward Focus wants to take time to show these people that we care and appreciate the work they do.

On Monday, February 13, 2012, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM we will visit some of these businesses and distribute a small token of our appreciation to these individuals.

We are looking for 30 people to serve in this event. Yes, we will have to limit this event to the first 30 who sign up – but we are giving our blog followers the first shot at signing up, and then our Facebook followers.

If you are available to serve or want more details, please contact Kim Ryan at www.kimr@ctkbellingham.com

The Bellingham School District has a huge project and has asked for our help. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer some time, please enter in the side door off Birchwood Ave with the small parking lot.
Birchwood Elementary is located at 3200 Pinewood Avenue.
Volunteers should dress warm because the gym is not heated. They should ask for the staff member in charge and that person will show them how to place the coding stickers on the books to get them ready for our elementary students.
You can help during any of the following dates/times:
- Tuesday, November 1st, 12:30-5:30 PM
- Thursday, November 3rd, 12:30-5:00 PM
The work is simple and fun! Volunteering for just a couple of hours is greatly appreciated!  A big shout out to all the volunteers that came and helped this past week.
The school district is very pleased and impressed by the willingness of CTK volunteers to help them with this huge project.

The Bellingham School District is asking for our help to catalog a large shipment of text books. If you can give an hour, or several hours, your help will be greatly appreciated. Simply go to the Birchwood Elementary school gym and tell them you are a volunteer from CTK to help with the books.

Let’s show the love of Jesus in a practical way by showing up to help.

Many of our volunteers have decided to adopt an area of Bellingham or their own neighborhood – cleaning up trash and graffiti. These are great opportunities to invite a friend to join you as we reach out to our city showing the love of Jesus in small pactical ways.

Recently a couple went out to repaint a wall of fresh graffiti when a city policeman approached them to see just what they were up to. When they explained that they had adopted this area and were committed to discouraging taggers by repainting over it the policeman was encouraged! Just another way to show our neighbors that we care.

A group of 13 volunteers walked through the Bellingham’s South Hill neighborhood today removing graffiti tags from public resources, city walls and property where permission was given. We are had a great time and the weather cooperated all day.
